About CountyPortal

Peace and Love. One County at a Time.

Connect What Already Exists

Every county has people, knowledge and resources worth connecting. CountyPortal is a county-first, resident-first place to make those connections — caring for one another and the Earth we share.

Find what you need

A local business, helpful resource or next step.

Share what you know

A useful connection, local knowledge or an opportunity to help.

Connect with others

People whose experience and care can make a difference.

A connection can become something more

“1 + 1 = 3” is our way of describing synergy, not literal arithmetic. A person with a skill and a neighbor with a need can create something neither could do alone.

Find businesses and local food, learn to grow food, listen to podcasts where people share what they know, explore your calling, understand your representatives or contribute locally. National knowledge is built once and connected county by county, alongside verified local resources — without pretending every county has the same options.

Three inspirations

CountyPortal draws inspiration from many people and ideas while remaining independent in its own mission.

Scott Dinsmore: Work You Love

His TED talk, “How to Find Work You Love,” invites reflection on meaningful work, skills, interests and the people around us. That spirit informs Find Your Calling: connect reflection with opportunities, without telling anyone what their calling is.

Nicole Shanahan: soil, food and stewardship

Her interest in soil health, food and stewardship is one inspiration behind Heal Soil & Grow Food. Living soil supports plants, helps water soak in and cycles nutrients — sustaining the life that sustains us.

Her participation as Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate on an independent ticket in 2024 also prompted reflection on resident representation beyond party labels. This is an influence, not a political endorsement.

A soil documentary trilogy

Three films by filmmakers Josh and Rebecca Tickell, curated here as a resource. Nicole Shanahan is credited as an executive producer of Kiss the Ground and Common Ground. Those credits are a fact about the films, not an endorsement of CountyPortal. Each link goes to the film’s official site for information and viewing options.

Executive producer credits listed at Kiss the Ground film credits (opens in a new tab) and Common Ground film credits (opens in a new tab).

For another storytelling perspective, see Dirt! The Movie’s official film information (opens in a new tab). Stories can inspire curiosity; practical decisions deserve trusted guidance.

Representation Begins With People

Civic understanding starts with people: who serves us, how representation works and how we can serve across differences. CountyPortal is not a party organization and does not advocate candidates or parties.

Find Your Representatives

Start where you live

Every U.S. county has a place here, with its own page and free listings for businesses, churches and community organizations. Local people bring the knowledge and relationships that make each community its own.
